The Granary

The Granary at Owl Moon Farm is a charming family getaway nestled in the mountains just minutes from Lexington, Virginia. With its idyllic location on an historic 100 acre farm, our cottage provides a unique setting that is perfect for your visit to the scenic Shenandoah Valley. The Granary was originally constructed in the early 1900’s and was operated for many years as part of a turn-of-the-century farm. It was completely renovated in 2007 to provide all of the modern comforts and conveniences of a mountain farm retreat, but with its exposed, hand-hewn beams, rough-sawn boards, and broad expanses of windows, it retains a unique and historic charm all its own.

Amenities

The Granary is perfect for families, comfortably sleeping up to seven people. There are two private bedrooms, each with queen-sized bed. The downstairs bedroom has queen-sized platform bed, luxury bedding, walk-in closet, reading nook and direct access to the private rear deck. The upstairs bedroom has a queen-sized bed with luxury bedding. There is a queen-sized sleeper sofa in the great room and a twin-sized day bed with memory foam mattress in a sleeping alcove off the great room – both are great for kids! There is plenty of room for a travel crib or an air mattress; there is no charge for children under 2 years old.

Located on the lower level of this unique cottage are two half bathrooms. One bathroom features a one-of-a-kind shower/tub combination, antique marble sink, radiant panel heating and a high efficiency washer and dryer. The other has a Todo toilet and sink.

The kitchen is large, bright and fully equipped with a coffee maker, toaster, microwave and gas range. For your stay, we provide delicious, organic BOLD3 coffee, an assortment of Traditional Medicinal teas, and sweeteners, including local honey. Overlooking two of our smaller pastures and a large historic barn is a sun-filled dining nook with built-in seating under an antique bay window.

The living area is a spacious great room with vaulted 20′ ceilings and original exposed post and beams. Free WiFi, 40″ Smart TV with Blu-ray player, DVD collection, numerous games, puzzles and books are also provided.

The spacious and private deck reaches over a rock-strewn stream. There is a stainless steel gas grill for your use and plenty of seating for relaxing, star-gazing and listening to the evening calls of the many owls that make their home in the surrounding forest.

A beautiful haven close to Lexington

We planned an overnight here as a family the night before dropping out daughter in the dorms at W&L. Once we arrived, I was taken in by the tranquility of the surroundings and the quaintness of the house and I asked to book another night so we could stay longer! The beds were very comfortable and there is nice outdoor space for enjoying cocktail hour or coffee. I am not sure if there is a/c but it was cool enough during our stay with just the windows open. We did close the kitchen windows at night so the “rooster alarm” wouldn’t wake us the second morning. There are charming nooks for reading (or checking your phone if you are a teenager.) My kids were too old to enjoy the adorable play area tucked behind the sofa, but families with younger children should know it is perfect. Children’s bookshelf! Wooden play kitchen! The jaunt to town is just over ten minutes and a beautiful drive on the back road. All in all a lovely, peaceful place to be in the gorgeous hills surrounding Lexington. Suzette W. 9/7/2021

A terrific place to visit

This cabin was wonderful, quaint in some ways, beautiful, and charming overall. Very pleasant, quiet, and easy to reach location. Would love to come again. Owners communicated clearly and promptly. Michael S. 8/9/2021

Beautiful…. But

A mouse climbed into bed with me. It was on my head, and scurried down my body. I am thankful it was me and not my child. Evidence the little booger had been in our food so we had to throw some out. I loved the property and the owners seemed great and immediately refunded us. There are mousetraps, and the beds are on platforms, but it’s time to try another method. Nicole C. 7/29/2021

Our commitment to chemical-free, sustainable farming means we are limited in what we can use to keep those pesky critters out of our home and barns, but we do our best 😉 Tripp & Becky

Great getaway

Wonderful getaway spot for a young family. The Granary was clean, well laid out and a perfect base camp for day trips to Lexington and Goshen. Farm animals were a huge hit with the kids. We’ll be coming back! Erik K. 6/21/2021

Better than expected

The pictures on the website do not do this cabin justice. This cabin is exceptional. The small creek right outside the bedroom window was more than enough to get me to go back again for another weekend getaway. Eddie W. 4/8/2021

Immaculate Home/Wonderful Family

We had a very relaxing stay on Tripp and Becky’s farm. The home was immaculate and comfortable. It was located down a long wooded road with very pretty surroundings. I especially enjoyed the deck areas. Our favorite part really was visits from their two children. They were so sweet and friendly and told us lots of stories about the property and farm life. They were so kind to our two toddler grands, playing Hide & Seek and other games that made them so happy. Tripp and Becky couldn’t be nicer and they are a really wonderful family that I admired. We loved the 4 farm dogs who always stopped by our decks to give us lovin. There were simply the gentlest and sweetest. It’s also the perfect area for enjoying the stars. Natural Bridge is close by and we especially enjoyed that outing. Denise D. 8/25/2020

Would Definitely Recommend!

This property was excellent; we would definitely book it again and recommend it to others who want to check out the Lexington area. The property itself lived up to its photos and provided plenty of space for 4 adults and 1 child (8 years old). It was close enough to town to not be too far away from shopping, but far enough away to feel away from it all. The owners were nice and responsive. This is a great place to use as a base for exploring the Lexington area, or staying in and with a book. Erik J. 8/14/2020

Amazing property. Clean and big. Lovely nature around it.

This is a beautiful property! So clean and very nice fixtures and appliances. They take pride in this property and it shows. We wish to go back in future. Susan P. 5/27/2019

Everything was great about this cozy farm cottage. Wish all the collies were friendly because I love dogs but I understand they’re working dogs. The black and white one wanted to play, however, as advertised. Lexington is super close, but with the house and the property so big, plenty of time was spent exploring. Will definitely come again! Our favorite getaway

We have visited the granary twice now and only hope to be able to do it many more times. The setting is so ideal for a getaway from the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life. The granary itself is beautiful and cozy with everything you could need. The kitchen is airy and well stocked, the bathrooms are pristine, and the outdoor shower is a cool bonus. My children absolutely love getting to know their way around the farm and interacting with the animals. And Kaedan and Olivia have become long distant vacation friends that they talk about often. If you ask my kids where they want their next vacation to be the answer is ALWAYS “The farm.” And I have to agree. Thank you Becky and Tripp for welcoming us each time we come and for the amazing opportunity to experience this perfect home away from home. Alaina A. 3/9/2019

  1. We have reserved the house for a weekend in October. Id love to be able to tour the farm and possibly even help around the farm. Is this something we need to schedule or is it ok to just drop in? What are your suggestions on how to participate?
